Nadi Astrology - for Skeptics and Believers
I had heard about Nadi astrology from a friend and his wife who visited India on a vacation and were totally blown away with their reading. My friend being a very scientific, rational, successful business person, narrated the episode and his amazement. Being the skeptic that he was, he made sure that there was no way the reader would know his name or background. They were stunned by the accuracy of the readings about them and their children and the subsequent predictions that came true during the coming years.
Being fascinated with this story, I tucked it away in my memory. A few years later, on a trip to India, a group of us had planned a mini trip to places in Tamil Nadu on the way to Rameswaram. We wanted to visit the famous temples in Kumbakonam on our way. Someone mentioned that Vaitheeswaran Koil was also nearby and I thought to myself if we had time, maybe it might be cool to check out the Nadi Astrology. We had planned to stay at Kumbakonam for the night, but were unable to get a hotel room due to the holiday season. There was a place available at Vaitheeswaran Koil. We reached there around 8:30 pm and wanted to see the temple before it closed. As per our plan, we had to depart early in the morning to Kumbakonam. I was thinking that maybe a reading was not possible as the places would close by that time. We might have to skip getting a reading. Vaitheeswaran Koil is a small sleepy town. We managed to visit a Nadi place after the temple visit. There were three of us interested in getting a reading and each of us treated it as a curiosity, with no expectations. Will they even find our nadi leaves? It seemed that destiny was playing a role!
Initially, I was a skeptic about Nadi astrology. With my scientific bent of mind, there were many unanswered questions. Most of my encounters with astrology or palmistry has been fairly generic predictions. Even horoscopes based on zodiac signs give a general trend about a person. The information can be interpreted in multiple ways. I rationalized that these generic predictions were probably statistical observance of traits that were categorized over the years.
It seems fascinating. But could it be true? Of the billions of people on the earth, how can they find my unique leaf? If my ethnicity and religion were not Indian or Hindu, will it still work?
Probably most of you have similar questions.
So Many Questions…
Ever since I had heard about Nadi astrology and been through the process of getting my reading done, I have had many questions about how this works:
- Was there an algorithmic approach to asking questions?
- Are the Yes/ No questions a standard set for everyone?
- Are the questions ‘leading questions’ to figure out what to ask next?
- Were educated guesses being made by the reader?
- Was he looking for visual cues to get confirmation signals?
- Was he a mind reader?
- Did it work only for Indians/ Hindus and Hindu names?
- Were previous births always in India?
- If there were multiple people with same category of thumb print, will the readings be identical or similar?
- Will names of parents be identical for multiple people with the same name?
- What if people were living together and not married?
- What if a person had adopted children?
- What happens if the biological father is different?
- Is the reader diligently making notes of tiny clues that you may give out?
- There are billions of people in the world. Are there billions of leaves?
Take a moment to ponder…Your parents with their specific names getting together and having you with your specific name! Why not a different name?
Why did your parents choose your name?
Seeking Answers
People who interacted with me were fascinated with my story and requested if they could also get their reading done. I was not sure if it would be possible to do a remote session. Thankfully, with technology like WhatsApp and the penetration of highspeed internet on mobile phones in India, it became possible. People can get their reading from the comfort of their home!
Most of the people who initially approached me to get a reading were not Indians. They needed help with translation and interpretation of the reading and explaination of various terms and summarizing the information in a contextual form that they could understand. This was a wonderful opportunity to put quite a few hypotheses to the test. The more readings I have been involved with, the more I am amazed at the system.
I have helped over 80 people from various nationalities and ethnic origins have their readings done remotely from the US. Ethnicities and nationalities ranging from Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, American, Indian and others. Religious beliefs varying from Jewish, Christian, Hindu, Agnostic and Muslim. Varied professional backgrounds like, Executives, Entrepreneurs, Engineers, Consultants, Professors, Defense, Linguists, Doctors, Realtors, Business, Students, Healers, TV personalities, Social-Media influencers, Musicians and Housewives. Each person’s reading has been unique. No two persons have had the same/ similar reading. Even when the thumb categories were the same, the readings were different.
The names of these persons and their parents and spouse names are sometimes names that most of us may not even have heard about. Some of them have very interesting backgrounds and are involved with things that are carry-overs from their previous lives. Some even have ailments that are related to their previous karma. Legal or personal issues that weren’t apparent initially came out in the readings! Lots of interesting anecdotes.
Not mere coincidence! Worked with people from around the world – different ethnicities, backgounds, religions. If it is in your destiny to know your future, you will seek it out.
Validated data from over 80 readings from varying ethnicities, religions, professions
Is this the Real Deal?
The readings are interesting. But how can I be sure they are accurate across the board? Being a skeptic, I always had my instincts to beware of scams. Having worked with a multitude of people from various walks of life and ethnicities, my confidence in the readers I deal with from Vaitheeswaran Koil has increased.
The folks I work with from Vaitheeswaran Koil have been accurate and reliable. The natal charts are very accurate. They did not require time and place of birth. I compared their chart to what I had and it was identical.
The reading describes your life ahead, year by year. I have followed up with some folks to see how their readings corresponded to actual life. So far, the correlation has been pretty good.
With over 80 readings, I can confidently say that the data I have is statistically significant regarding the accuracy.
It is pretty simple. All you need is send a thumbprint on a piece of paper with your date of birth.
Start with your thumbprint.
The Process
- Take thumb impression of the person (left thumb for women and right thumb for men) on a piece of paper. Note your date of birth and gender on the paper. Thumb impressions are categorized and this helps in identifying the leaf bundles. Giving your date of birth helps to locate your bundle quicker. Identifying your bundle takes a few days/ weeks.
- Once the bundle corresponding to your thumb imprint is found, the Nadi astrologer starts the process of identifying your specific leaf from the bundle by asking a few questions.
- These are a series of questions that are answered with a Yes/ No.
- They will be able to identify your name, your parents’ names as well as certain details that are specific to you.
- If the details match the answers provided by you, it is confirmed that the leaf belongs to you.
- In case your leaf is not found, the Nadi astrologers will enhance the search for your bundle.
- He will draw up your astrological chart and proceed to the reading of your leaf
- The reading will be recorded and the audio file will be sent to you. You are also welcome to record the session by yourself too.
- During the course of the reading, certain prescriptions or pariharams will be mentioned to mitigate certain doshas (deficiencies). These will vary for each person depending upon their karma. It is up to you to choose whether to pursue the pariharams.
- At any time, you can ask questions or clarifications. You can do the same even at a later date.
How to Send Thumbprint

Sample Thumbprints
- On piece of paper make 5 thumb impressions. Use an ink pad (available at stationery supply stores).
- Male: RIGHT Thumb
- Female: LEFT Thumb
- Write your Date of Birth and Gender
- Take a picture of this and send it.
THATS ALL …!
Live out your full potential. You are from a select few who are blessed to know about how to pay off your karmic debts and overcome your challenges.
Pujas and pariharams that take care of your karmic debts.
What can you expect?
- Detailed reading of events by year (sometimes in two year segments).
- Recording of the reading (audio file) and natal chart
- Synopsis of the reading in written format for easy reference.
- Follow up Q/A
- Pariharam pujas for most standard cases and prasadam (vibhuti and kumkum, yantra or amulet). This is for the typical pariharam that could be a few weeks or months.
However, in certain circumstances, the recommended pujas may be more involved. For e.g. visit to specific temples and performing special pujas there. Puja where cows/ people have to be fed over a period of time or doing a puja with a small gold mangalsutra, feeding and clothing nine girls. These are extras and the person can choose to perform it themselves or outsource to the persons at Vaitheeswaran Koil to do on your behalf. The cost estimates they provide are reasonably commensurate with the effort involved.
Your past life karmic actions have a direct correlation to your current life challenges.
Find the reason for your current birth and the challenges you are facing.
Known Unknowns
You will also learn about your past life – where you were born, your name and parents names from that life and your karma that resulted in the current life. I am not aware if there is a way to verify this. I have always thought of this as an interesting story. However, I can vouch that each person’s past life story has been different and in an interesting way is connected to their current life experiences. The places where people were born in their past lives has varied across different countries, and not just from India.
There is some method to the madness that has been figured out by our ancestors. From my youth days of dismissing astrology as generic mumbo-jumbo, all I can say is there is more that we do not know!
Nice to know what your future is. But don’t forget to live your daily life.
The Road Ahead
Benefits
People who want to get their readings done are destined to know about their destiny (the leaf says so!) at that specific juncture in their life. They will seek it out. (FYI – I have mentioned the Nadi experience to some of my friends, who have nodded their heads, but never took the next step. Few did go ahead). For most people, knowing their future destiny gives them a sense of relief. They are better able to process why certain things are happening to them the way they do.
I always maintain that this is nice to know and to live out your life normally. If things correlate, well and good!

Interesting Anecdotes
Over the years, each reading has been an adventure. Each one being unique and interesting. Below are a few intersting anecdotes:
- Person was very keen to get her reading done and had sent in her prints. However, the reader was busy with other activities and did not locate her bundle for about 3 weeks despite repeated reminders. Upon unique identification of her leaf, the reader mentioned that her reading can take place only after puja was done during a major festival. It just so happened that the festival date was just the next day. However, the reading still could not take place as the person was traveling and the reading had to be scheduled a couple of days later, this despite everyone’s intention of getting the reading done as soon as possible.
- A person who already had done a reading tried to go to Vaitheeswaran Koil to get ‘another’ reading by pretending that he had never had a reading. Through a bungling of schedules, he was unsuccessful and had to return home from Vaitheeswaran Koil.
- Person sent his prints, but the bundle could not be found. Despite repeated requests over the months, it still was not available. Apparently, those bundles were loaned to another city. After a few months, we were notified about the availability of the bundle and proceeded to the reading.
- Even though the person was initially very interested in getting her reading done, the bundle was not located for a while. However, when the bundle was located, she had lost interest and did not proceed with the process of getting her leaf uniquely identified. Probably it was not in her destiny to know her future!
- Person was very interested in oceans, ancient architecture in current life. Previous life was in Poompuhar, an ancient city that at its height was an important city and the center for art and culture during the Sangam era. This city currently has been swallowed by the sea.
- Most of the readings list out the details of the person for their entire life span. In one instance, the reading ended abruptly. The person was a Muslim from the Middle East. The leaf predicted that he would become more interested in Dharmic spirituality and visit India and seek out the reading for the rest of his life.
- A couple that knew each other as families over the years started dating each other after their initial marriages were over. Their readings were done independently. Their lives were so intertwined that the names of each other showed up on their leaves.
- For most people, the leaf is identified from the initial bundles that the reader goes through. In this case, the person is a celebrity involved with doing things that has significant global impact. Apparently, there are a separate set of bundles for these kinds of people! He obviously did not know about this person and had to go back and get it from this special set of bundles. The past life of this person is equally very interesting in conjunction to the activities in the current life!
- A person had a skin disorder in current life that was also there in his previous life.
- Person was involved with eye care in his previous life and in his current life sells imported high-end spectacles.
- Person working in software, technology had a prediction that she loved dogs and would be involved with them. Guess what? She quit her tech career, moved to a different place with her new spouse and is now running a pet grooming place as predicted in her leaf!
- The reading mentioned that her son would be involved with the wrong set of kids. Within two days of the reading, she calls me all panicked that she caught her high school going son doing drugs.
- Older lady already in her 90’s. I was surprised to see her reading go well past a 100. As of now, she is well on her way there!
- Young woman with a recent baby came for her reading and everything seemed to be fine over casual conversation. However, we were surprised that she was secretly thinking of separating from her spouse when it came up in her leaf.
- Person was embroiled in a legal suit, unbeknownst to most of us. This came up in her leaf and the date by which the case would get settled.
- Multiple people who had children with various medical problems were correctly identified.
- Person’s son was interested in planes right from childhood. The leaf prediction was that he would be involved with aeronautics. Currently, he is pursuing a degree in aeronautics and aspiring to become an air force pilot.
- After a leaf was identified, the reader stopped saying that in order to proceed further a puja had to be done. Supposedly this puja was to protect all of us helping her out from the dosha that she carried.
- I was identified on certain people’s leaves that I would be helping them in this life time. I personally felt incredulous when it came up and asked the reader to clarify what was said.
- A person with a hearing problem since childhood was correctly identified and the leaf mentioned that it was incurable. He had sought out multiple specialists, but to no avail.
- We received a panicked call from a person saying her husband was in a coma and is probably going to die. How come the leaf had mentioned that he would live out a happy life for more years? I sought an explanation from the reader, who went back to check his leaf. I looked through my notes and found that at this juncture he was likely to go through a tough situation. Could the reading be wrong? Guess what, in a few days, the person completely recovers and goes back home. As predicted in the leaf, this was a turning point in his life.
- A client of ours had shared her experience with a person in Europe. This guy got the phone number of the reader and decided to bypass us for the translation and interpretation. He knew English (East European accent), the reader knew English (Indian accent). How hard could it be? What transpired was a comical session (we learned about it later), where neither understood each other to even get off the starting blocks! Moral of the story – the context, interpretation and translation is not a trivial exercise.
Feel blessed that you are one of the few whose destiny was to know their future and hence you sought out your leaf.
Healing your mind, body and soul.
FAQs
Here are answers to some of the questions that you may have:
What is Nadi Astrology
Nadi astrology is perhaps one of the most mystical branches of Vedic astrology. An ancient form of astrology practiced in southern India, Nadi Astrology is based on the belief that the past, present and the lives of all humans were foreseen and recorded on palm leaves (olaichuvadi) by sages in ancient time.
The readings are broken into chapters, sometimes beginning with a beautiful short conversation or poem between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It helps identify the karma of the past life that is causing difficulties now and provides the remedies on how to remove them.
It is a popularly believed that the great Hindu sages of the yore foresaw the past, present and future of all humans and hence, recorded these on tree barks and palm leaves. Today, these can be deciphered or read by Nadi astrologers or experts who have studied this branch of astrology. The term ‘Nadi’ in Tamil means ‘in search of’. Therefore, the existence of Nadi astrology indicates that every human being is in search of his past and future.
In Tamil Nadu, the texts were written in Vattezhuthu, an ancient Tamil script by maharishis (sages). The concept is believed to be developed by as many as 18 sages, out of which the most notable one is Agastya. The records of the writings were made famous by astrology practitioners around Vaitheeswaran Koil in Tamil Nadu.
These Nadis are not easy to read as they are written in ancient Tamil and are in poetry form – in sonnets and couplets. Only expert linguists who have studied this form of astrology over many years can read them. Nadi Astrology is one of the oldest forms of astrology originating in India and in the recent past, it has attained a lot of popularity.
What is a Nadi Leaf (Olaichuvadi)
Nadi leaves are palm leaves astrology that have been dried and cured with special herbs. The leaves are etched with tiny handwritten inscriptions that were created hundreds of years ago by a group of enlightened masters in southern India known as Siddhas.
The story goes that Lord Shiva was very pleased with the devotion from these Siddhars, so he blessed them with the gift of clairvoyance – the ability to see into a person’s past, present, and future.
These Siddhars made agreements with many people to help them in a future lifetime when they would need special guidance or assistance. Using the Nadi leaves, the Siddhars wrote out the key problems the person would face in future lifetimes and what they could do to alleviate those problems. They also noted the many blessings that might be in store for the person in that lifetime.

Leaf Identification
Nadi astrology is destiny. You will only find your leaf if, and at the time you are destined to do so. It is said that not everyone has a Nadi leaf. If you do, it is believed that you will learn about the leaves so that you may be guided to receive your reading at the predestined time noted in your leaf.
Thumb prints are classified into 108 categories. Based on your thumb print (right for male, left for female) and date of birth, the reader finds the bundles of leaves that match the thumbprint.
The nadi manuscripts contain every detail of a person’s life – name, parents’ names, whether parents are alive, married, number of offspring and so on. The reader goes through a process of elimination by framing questions so that answers must only be in a Yes or No. Using your ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ answers to the questions, your leaf will be uniquely identified from the bundle.
Destiny
It is believed that the seeker would come on their own accord in search of the leaves at their destined time. One tends to seek this form of divination only if (s)he is destined. Very strangely the leaf also mentions at what time the person will appear to take his/her reading. It is believed that Lord Shiva has destined a life for every soul in all its incarnations and if he wills, the particular soul would seek a reading to understand the life patterns emerging in that particular incarnation.
There have seen multiple instances where a person’s reading could not take place for a variety of reasons until their duly destined date. It could be scheduling, travel, locating the right bundle, monetary issues etc.
Predictions
It reveals the destiny of man, his past, present and future and comprehensive details about one`s life. Predictions were written down in ancient Tamil and they are called Nadi Granthas, which are divided into 16 chapters or Kandams. The various chapters give details about the person`s family, profession, marriage, children, future happenings, disease, prosperity, family, friends, bad habits and associations, spiritual inclinations, auspicious happenings, death, foreign trips, litigation and a complete overview of life. It also gives the causes for present birth`s karmic struggles and ways to overcome them through suitable remedies. When the leaf is read, names of parents, current position in life, reasons for seeking the reading too is mentioned in the leaf.
Natal Chart
Natal chart shows the positions of the planets in the zodiac at the time of your birth. It is believed that the position of the planets at the time of your birth are an indicator of your traits.

Pariharam/ Puja
Pariharam/ Puja are rituals and remedies prescribed that will help one overcome the challenges they are facing due to their karmic debt and realize their full potential. This type and duration of the pariharam will vary for each person as it is commensurate to their karmic debts. For most cases, it involves the guru performing the puja with the leaf. The duration could be a few weeks or months. The prasadam from the puja (vibhuti and kumkum, yantra or amulet) will be mailed out to you.
In certain circumstances, the recommended pujas may be more involved. For e.g. visit to specific temples and performing special pujas there, food donations etc. These are extras and the person can choose to perform it themselves or outsource to the persons at Vaitheeswaran Koil to do on your behalf.

Context and Interpretation
It is important to interpret the reading correctly in the modern context. For e.g. when the leaves were written, there were no computer related fields or contemporary engineering disciplines. Similarly, modern nation states may not have existed in their current form, but their general geographic locations always existed. Live in relationships, partners, divorce etc. have to be interpreted in contemporary terms.

How long is the session?
The total session can easily take up over 2 hours. Plan on setting aside at least that much time. Usually we spend about 15 min to half an hour before the session to walk you through the process and help you get familiarized with what to expect. We also utilize this time to help prep for the initial Yes/ No questions in the interest of time. Typically, we have found people like to talk to us post their reading, sometimes sharing their personal stories and how it was related to their reading, questions and clarifications on certain points in the reading etc.
In certain unusal cases, the reading could not be done on the scheduled day. So far, we have seen that for one person, the leaf search had to be extended as it was not found in the first batch of bundles. For a few instances, even when the unique leaf was found, it was mentioned that the reading should be done only after specific puja was performed, hence requiring a session on another day.
Can you be living outside the US?
Yes, you can live in any part of the world. Only requirement is that you need to have reliable internet access! Typically we use WhatsApp.
Do I get charged if they don't find my leaf?
No, you don’t have to pay if your leaf is not found.
Is there a discount?
For us it is more important to work with reliable, accurate readers who will take the time to provide detailed explanations and have the integrity to perform the pujas judiciously. We have vetted the readers over multiple clients and have a negotiated discounted rate for the detailed reading and normal puja/ pariharams. There is no charge for follow up question sessions.

Vaitheeswaran Koil
Vaitheeswaran Koil is a small, sleepy town in Tamil Nadu. The place is renowned for being the main nerve center for Nadi Astrology. Being the main center, palm leaf bundles are accessible to the various Nadi astrologers. The town’s main temple is the Vaitheeswaran temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of the God of Healing (Vaidyanathar or Vaitheewaran).
The presiding deity is Sri Vaidyanathan (Shiva), facing towards West instead of the more common East. He is the God of Healing.
Shiva is worshipped as Vaidyanathar or Vaitheeswaran - meaning the God of healing
